Hi, I'm Konko. On paper I'm an Accountancy Honours student in Calcutta. Off paper, I taught myself to code and never really stopped. These days I'm mostly poking at AI, trying to make language models actually understand Bengali, dialects and all.
I hang out with research folks and civic data a lot, building the tools that turn messy public records into things people can actually use. Before all this I spent three years in the ad trenches, running Meta and Google campaigns and social media strategy. So yes, I know why your feed looks the way it does.
I'm loud about free and open source software, open public data, mesh networks and civic tech. When I'm not at a keyboard, I'm behind a camera, reimagining film frames with AI, or watching a frankly irresponsible number of movies.
Now
Researching AI, building Bornomala and Betar, and freshly launched Cholochitro Diary. On the side: shooting photos and giving old film frames and posters a new life with AI.
Projects
- Bornomala: teaching AI to speak proper Bengali. A dialect-aware Bengali language model, built in the open. The first release is a tokenizer that finally keeps conjuncts in one piece. (code)
- Cholochitro Diary: just launched. Letterboxd for Bengali cinema. Log films, rate them, review them, and judge your friends' taste.
- GeoTag Camera: an open-source GPS map camera for Android. Stamps every photo with a map, coordinates, address and time, then signs it so edits get caught. Free, ad-free, no nonsense. (code)
- Betar Under development: chat with no network. An offline mesh messaging app where phones talk directly over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct. No SIM, no internet, no server. SOS, disaster bulletin boards and offline maps, for cyclones, floods and blackouts. The engine is Project Mesh, written in Rust. Pre-alpha, AGPL. (Betar means "radio" in Bengali.)
Civic tech and open data
I work closely with research teams on civic data and build the tools around it. Some of it is public:
- Indian Jobs Map: 61.6 crore workers across 118 occupations, with AI exposure scores, from PLFS 2025 microdata.
- West Bengal Budget Explorer: the 2026-27 state budget in plain English.
- World Cup 2026 Final Model: nine models and 400,000 Monte Carlo simulations, published before the final.
Tools
- WordPress MCP: lets AI assistants run your WordPress site, with an undo button for everything.
- litecode: an offline AI coding agent that runs open-weight models on anything from a 4 GB laptop to a GPU box.
- Google Marketing MCP: one MCP server for Google Ads, Tag Manager, Search Console and GA4, with a dry-run safety gate.
- WebToolsHub: 12 free domain and website tools, via MCP or REST.
- WP Certificates: white-label, verifiable PDF certificates for WordPress.
Ads and marketing
Three years of performance marketing: Meta and Google media buying, plus social media strategy. I still think about attribution in the shower.
Photography and film
Photography is my oldest hobby. Lately I take frames and posters from films I love and reimagine them with AI, as new artworks and alternate renditions. Mostly, though, I just watch a ridiculous amount of cinema. Some of it lives on Instagram.
